UK Border Force ships rescue migrants from English Channel during weekend surge

UK Border Force ship Hurricane was spotted heading back into Dover port on the south coast of England, after another busy day patrolling the English Channel on Sunday 10 October. Around 15 migrants picked up in the busy shipping lane were seen on board, a reduction on the numbers it was spotted with yesterday, when 491 migrants were picked up by various ships. The day before that, 624 people crossed, with hundreds more stopped before they could leave France. Sunny, calm weather has been blamed for the spike in migrant numbers, which are expected to fall as autumn heads into winter.
