UK coronavirus death toll rises by 85

The number of people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK has risen by 85.

As of 5pm on Wednesday, 44,602 have died across all settings, including the community and care homes, after testing positive for Covid-19.

A total of 287,621 people have been diagnosed with the disease in Britain since the start of the pandemic.

In the past 24 hours, another 642 positive tests have been recorded across the UK.

The latest figures come as it was revealed earlier today that people working in high-risk jobs will be able to get Covid-19 tests even if they have no symptoms

Meanwhile, Boots John Lewis and Rolls-Royce have become the latest companies to announce thousands of job cuts.

The pharmacy is axing 7,000 jobs, Rolls-Royce is cutting 2,000 employees, John Lewis will permanently close eight stores putting 1,200 positions at risk.
