The Covid-19 death toll rose by 1,052 on Tuesday, bringing the UK’s total number of deaths since the pandemic began to 121,674.

The daily rise is a drop from last Tuesday’s figure of 1,449.

Separate figures published by the UK’s statistics agencies for deaths where Covid-19 has been mentioned on the death certificate, together with additional data on deaths that have occurred in recent days, show there have now been 132,000 deaths involving Covid-19 in the UK.

A further 12,364 people have tested positive for the virus. It brings the total number of UK infections to 3,972,148.

It comes after new data showed coronavirus deaths appear to have peaked in mid-January in a potential sign of hope that the current lockdown restrictions are working.
