A further four people have died in UK hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus, the latest figures show.

In England, a further three people who tested positive for coronavirus died in hospital, NHS England said on Monday.

One more person died in hospital in Wales after testing positive for the virus and there were no new deaths in Scotland or Northern Ireland.

The hospital death toll is released daily by separate devolved authorities and differs from the official central Government figures, which will be released later today.

NHS England said the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 29,500 — an increase of three since Tuesday.

The patients were aged between 73 and 87, and all had known underlying health conditions.

No deaths were reported with no positive Covid-19 test result.

Meanwhile, Public Health Wales said one person has died having tested positive for Covid-19, bringing its total number of deaths since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,593.

The number of cases of Covid-19 in Wales increased by 19, bringing the revised confirmed total to 17,746.

In Scotland there was no increase in the number of people who have died within 28 days of a positive test, which remains at 2,492.

A total of 66 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, Nicola Sturgeon announced.

The First Minister told the Scottish Government’s regular coronavirus briefing the total number of people who have tested positive is now 19,877.

The latest daily figures showed that 1 per cent of those tested for the virus were positive.

Ms Sturgeon said of those who tested positive, 248 were in hospital, up three in 24 hours.

Of these, one was in intensive care, a fall of one.

Another 10 cases of Covid-19 have been reported in Northern Ireland in the past 24 hours, the Department of Health said.

There have been no more deaths.
