The number of people who have died in the UK after testing positive for Covid-19 has jumped by 111 as major changes are made to coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

Under Boris Johnson's relaxed lockdown restrictions , people in England will be allowed to meet up in gardens and parks with up to six people from separate households, while some primary school children will start returning to the classroom.

However, the debate over whether the Government has lifted measures too quickly is continuing, with ministers and education unions still at odds over whether it is safe for schools to reopen. Health experts have also warned that the UK is not prepared for a second wave of the virus and that the new meet-up rules are “not supported by the science”.

It comes as a warm weekend saw people flocking to beaches and parks around the UK, prompting members of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) to express concern over the lockdown changes. But England's deputy chief medical officer, Dr Jenny Harries, has said the public would be safe if they were “sensible” and did not “overdo it”.
