Boris Johnson has said the UK is “now seeing a second wave coming in” as he told reporters that Downing Street is considering whether it needs to “go further” than the current national restrictions.

Ministers are considering short-term measures to curb the spread of coronavirus , including a so-called circuit breaker lockdown which could see a ban on socialising.

The move could also see curfews on pubs and restaurants. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said on Friday that the Government would do "what is necessary" to protect the country and refused to rule out a national lockdown, but said he hoped schools and workplaces would be allowed to stay open.

Meanwhile at least 10 million Brits are back under coronavirus lockdown after new restrictions covering the North East kicked in. Those living in the North West, Midlands and West Yorkshire will also face similar measures from Tuesday .
