MPs have backed the new system of coronavirus tiers for England, despite Prime Minister Boris Johnson suffering a damaging Tory rebellion.

MPs voted to approve Covid-19 regulations that implement three tiers of restrictions in England from Wednesday by 291 votes to 78, majority 213.

The vote passed in part thanks to the opposition abstaining, with only 16 left wing Labour MPs voting against the Government.

Restaurants and many pubs and bars will be able to reopen in the capital from tomorrow, but mixing indoors with people from other households remains banned.
