A police chief has hit out at "angry drunks, fights" and "naked men" who sparked disorder as lockdown was eased.

Hundreds of thousands of people visited pubs, restaurants, hairdressers and cinemas as they opened their doors on "Super Saturday" under strict social distancing regulations.

The chairman of the Police Federation John Apter said it was “crystal clear” revellers would not adhere to the one metre plus rule, as Professor Chris Whitty, England's chief medical officer, warned the move was "high risk".

Sir Simon Stevens, the NHS England chief executive, said the health service is preparing to deliver its “biggest ever” flu immunisation programme this winter as it braces for another spike. Health Secretary Matt Hancock redoubled his call to "enjoy summer safely" but said he was "pleased" overall with how punters behaved.
