The coronavirus death toll across the UK has risen by just 16 overnight – the lowest Monday increase since March.

All new Covid-19 deaths occurred in England, with Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland reporting zero new fatalities.

The landmark comes as Rishi Sunak is set to exempt most homebuyers from paying stamp duty as he prepares to unveil new plans to revive the UK economy. On Wednesday, the Chancellor is expected to announce a "holiday" from the property tax, as he raises the threshold from from £125,000 to as much as £500,000, according to reports.

In more sobering developments, the World Health Organisation has warned that Britain can expect "big outbreaks" of the virus within weeks, if people continue to flout social distancing rules, as was seen during England's so-called Super Saturday weekend.
