New maps reveal horror -12C Arctic blast set to smash into Britain in days. WX Charts maps and charts, using Met Desk data, shows the mercury could plunge to -5C at times as we head deeper into the winter and towards Christmas month.

Jim Dale, the chief meteorologist with British Weather Services, told the Mirror : "There is beginning to be consistency in the models, the UK will slip into a much colder regime of Arctic weather on the 16th and 17th of November for several days, with widespread ice, along snow for some - not just Scotland!"

The Met Office forecast for the latter stages of November explains: "Signals vary in prevailing weather patterns through this period but likely more unsettled than during early November. There is a greater chance of more mobile weather patterns which would see Atlantic systems periodically move across the country."

"Some colder interludes possible but overall temperatures more likely to be around or above average." It comes in the wake of the latest WXCharts maps show a blast of blue air encroaching on the UK from the Arctic Circle.

The Arctic air and bitter plume of Polar conditions will spread over Norway in Scandinavia before sweeping the UK and vast swathes of Europe and the European Union continent to boot. Temperatures high in the atmosphere seem set to drop down to -5C and below.

Elsewhere, there will be -12C lows lows at times in Northern Europe as the conditions take a noticeable downturn on the run-in to the end of the penultimate month of the year and beginning of Christmas month.
