UK faces first 0C day of autumn 'this week' as deep freeze hits
The UK faces its first FREEZING day of autumn within days - as the temperatures drop by 27C from last Friday. September 13 has been earmarked as the coldest day of autumn so far, with the mercury struggling to get above zero in places.
Areas around Edinburgh, Wick, Aberdeen, Inverness, and Newcastle are likely to shiver at 0C, suggest WX Charts. The WX Charts maps and charts are projected daily using Met Desk data and figures, with meteorologists issuing forecasts for the week.
The Met Office forecast for today (Sunday September 8) says: "A wet day for parts of northern and central England, and parts of Wales with heavy and persistent rain. Showers developing in the southeast, possibly heavy and thundery. Cloudy but largely dry elsewhere. A cooler day for most. Brisk winds."

Looking ahead at tonight, forecasters from the Met Office said: "Some outbreaks of rain this evening though generally easing overnight. Any daytime showers becoming confined to coasts. Patchy fog in places. Turning chilly where skies clear in the north."
The Monday forecast adds: "Some cloud to start with patchy rain in the southeast. Turning brighter and feeling much fresher for most. Cloud returning in the northwest with showers and spells of rain later." The o utlook for Tuesday to Thursday goes on to say: " An unsettled week ahead with showers and longer spells of rain. It will be feeling much cooler with an autumnal chill on its way, often accompanied by brisk northwesterly winds."
The BBC weekly outlook adds: "Tuesday will be windy and cool with spells of rain clearing southwards. Behind this, sunny spells and blustery showers, especially in the north-west. Wednesday will remain windy with bright intervals and scattered showers, these most likely in coastal areas. Thursday is set to see any showers ease to leave a more settled day with increasing amounts of sunshine. Trending cooler."
