The UK faces fresh snowfall this week - with -3C temperatures set to hit the country within hours as the hue on weather maps and charts turns a dark blue. Up to 2cm per hour of the white stuff is forecast for swathes of Scotland, north of the border.

The white stuff is set to hit from Edinburgh and across the Scottish Borders by midday on Wednesday, November 27. Any snow will have cleared by 9pm with much of the UK seeing a clear night, after measuring to 2cm accumulations at times.

Snow depth is set to gradually clear as the week progresses, the maps and charts - which are projected using Met Desk data - show. It comes as the Met Office has issued an update over what lies in store for the country as we head through Tuesday and into Wednesday.

Its outlook for today (Tuesday November 26) explains: "Dry for many today with sunny spells. However, scattered showers will push across Scotland and Northern Ireland, as well as some coastlines of England and Wales. Turning cloudier in the southwest later.

"A band of rain will move into the southwest this evening, pushing across Wales and southern England overnight with brisk winds. Drier in the north with a patchy frost." Looking ahead to Wednesday, tomorrow, the Met Office makes no mention of snowfall.

Instead, it says: "Staying cloudy across England and Wales, with outbreaks of rain becoming more confined to eastern England through the day. Drier in Scotland and Northern Ireland with bright spells. Chilly." The forecasters have also issued an update for the rest of the week.

An outlook for Thursday to Saturday adds: "Cold on Thursday, with fog in the east. Rain arriving in the west later. Winds strengthening from Friday, with outbreaks of rain in the west, drier in the east."
