UK Foreign Office issues new travel update after Washington plane crash tragedy
The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for those travelling overseas. The new advice comes after an American Airlines jet collided with an Army helicopter near Washington DC yesterday.
At least 28 bodies have been pulled from the Potomac River after the jet, carrying 60 passengers and four crew members collided with the helicopter while landing at Ronald Reagan National Airport. All people have now been confirmed dead by officials.
The UK Foreign Office travel advice also covers American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and United States Virgin Islands. They say: "If you are concerned about anybody who may have been involved in the accident, contact American Airlines on 1800 679 8215 (from inside the US), or see news.aa.com."

Ronald Reagan National Airport came to a standstill on Wednesday night, halting all take-offs and landings following collision. It is believed to have happened at around 9pm local time.
Passengers on the flight included a group of figure skaters, their coaches and family members who were returning from a development camp that followed the US Figure Skating Championships in Wichita.
The Foreign Office state that people who are due to fly to the affected area should follow the guidance of local services, be prepared for potential delays at the airport and check with their airline or travel operator for information on possible flight cancellations or delays.
To enter the US, your passport must be valid for the length of your planned stay. If you’re travelling through another country on your way to or from the US, check the entry requirements for that country. Many countries will only allow entry if you have at least 6 months validity remaining on your passport.
