UK GAS-Prices fall on rising temperatures and strong wind

April 17 (Reuters) - British wholesale gas prices fell on Wednesday despite a slightly oversupplied system due to forecasts for warmer than expected weather and as power production from wind turbines is set to increase.

* Within-day gas prices were down 1.03 pence at 35.97 p/therm by 0750 GMT.

* Day-ahead gas fell by 0.45 pence to 35.00 pence per therm.

* Weather conditions were behind the move in prompt prices, a British gas trader said, noting stronger wind power production and a revised forecast for higher temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday.

* Average daily temperatures in Britain are expected to be higher than forecast, at 9.7 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and 11.6 C on Thursday.

* Peak wind power generation is forecast at 5.2 gigawatts on Wednesday and is expected to rise to 6.7 GW the next day, National Grid data showed. The total capacity of the country's turbines is 12.1 GW.

* Strong power production from wind turbines typically reduces demand for electricity from gas-fired power stations.

* Gas demand in Britain was forecast at 231.9 million cubic metres (mcm) per day and flows at 229.5 mcm/day, National Grid data showed.

* Norwegian gas flows to Britain rose slightly to 81 mcm/day from Tuesday's 76 mcm/day.

* Britain received a liquefied natural gas tanker on Tuesday and expects four more to arrive by April 23.

* The May gas contract fell 0.10 pence to 35.75 p/therm.

* The benchmark Dec-19 EU carbon contract was up by 0.35 euros to 27.35 euros per tonne

* Day-ahead gas at the Dutch TTF hub was down 0.35 euros per megawatt hour at 15.00 euros per MWh. (Reporting by Lefteris Karagiannopoulos in Oslo; editing by David Evans)
