UK GAS-Prompt prices edge higher as imports from Norway fall

LONDON, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Prompt British wholesale gas prices edged higher on Tuesday morning as lower imports from Norway left the British system undersupplied. * Day-ahead gas price up by 0.15 pence to 47.10 pence/therm at 0840 GMT. * British within-day gas price flat at 47.20 p/therm. * Traders said lower imports from Norway had pushed British day-ahead gas prices higher, despite an expected dip in demand from gas-fired power stations due to forecasts of increased output from Britain's wind-farms. * British gas system undersupplied by 12.8 million cubic metres (mcm) with supply at 192 mcm, and demand forecast at 204.8 mcm, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed. * Imports from Norway through the Langeled pipeline were below 40 mcm, down from levels above 50 mcm the previous day, National Grid data showed. * Peak wind power generation is forecast at 3.9 gigawatts (GW) on Tuesday, rising to 7.6 GW on Wednesday, National Grid data showed. * October gas contract down by 0.31 pence at 46.00 p/therm. * Day-ahead gas price at the Dutch TTF hub down by 0.23 euro to 17.65 euros per megawatt hour. * Benchmark Dec-17 EU carbon contract down by 0.22 euro to 7.06 to euros per tonne. * Thomson Reuters (Dusseldorf: TOC.DU - news) analyst view: http://emea1.apps.cp.extranet.thomsonreuters.biz/cms/?pageid=united-kingdom-gas (Reporting By Susanna Twidale; Editing by Keith Weir)
