Support for the Tories is at its highest point for more than a year with the party gaining a further lead over Labour, according to a new poll.

The ICM survey puts the Conservatives on 42 per cent in the run up to next month's general election, three per cent up from figures it gathered last week and 10 per cent ahead of Labour.

This puts the party at its highest percentage in one of ICM's polls since September 2018.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party has gained some momentum with a one per cent increase in the week, sitting at 32 per cent.

The Lib Dems are on 13 per cent and the Brexit Party on five, down two and three points respectively.

ICM did not show the Brexit Party answer option to respondents who live in the constituencies where it has stood candidates down.

ICM surveyed 2,010 people online between November 15 and 18.

The information comes as Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn prepare to go head-to-head in a TV debate tonight.

Today, the Conservatives vowed to legislate to ensure adults convicted of murdering a child spend the rest of their life in prison.

While Labour has accused the Tories of handing tax breaks to billionaires and blasted them for doing so, saying such levels of wealth are "obscene".
