The UK’s Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, announced on July 17 that he had tested positive for COVID-19, two days ahead of the end of pandemic-related restrictions in England.
“I was feeling a bit groggy last night so I took a lateral flow test this morning and it’s come out positive,” said Javid, in a video posted to Twitter. “So, I’m now self-isolating at home with my family until I get the result of a PCR test.”
“I’m grateful that I’ve had two jabs of the vaccine, and so far, my symptoms are very mild,” he added, encouraging people to get vaccinated.
On July 13 Javid posted images showing him visiting a care home.
Javid’s announcement comes amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the UK, which on Friday recorded more than 50,000 positive patients for the first time since January. Credit: Sajid Javid via Storyful
