Holiday-goers are looking to explore picturesque destinations on their doorstep this summer, as staycations continue to grow in popularity amid uncertainty about changing coronavirus-related travel restrictions.

Online travel agency, Booking.com, has revealed 70% of its bookings this April were for domestic accommodation, while 51% of people had their home country on their travel wish-list this year.

There is plenty to explore close to home. The UK is split into 12 regions across four countries, and with 874 miles from the top of Scotland to the south coast, holidaymakers are spoilt for choice when it comes to destinations.

Unsurprisingly, beach staycations remain the most popular type of trip. According to Booking.com data, Bournemouth, Blackpool and Scarborough top the list of the best beaches in the UK to visit at the moment.

City trips are the second most popular type of trip, with 27% of British respondents craving hustle and bustle. The current top staycation cities dotted around the UK include London, Edinburgh and Liverpool.

A relaxing stay in the countryside is also a top priority, with 24% of British respondents wanting to experience nature on their next staycation. Popular locations are currently the countryside around Edinburgh, Inverness and Windermere.

But why stop at just one destination? Make more of your travels by turning it into a road trip and stopping off at other places on your bucket list too.

As travel restrictions are frequently changing, we advise checking the government guidelines and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) travel advice before booking any trip.

Whether you are looking for a beach break, city escape or zen countryside trip, with a group, family, partner or solo, we have compiled a list of the top-rated accommodation at each UK hotspot.
