UK households being handed £300 off energy bills after successful 'trial'
UK households are being handed £300 off energy bills by Scottish Power. Ahead of Christmas, Scottish Power is rolling out the scheme following a successful trial with 5,000 of its customers, which saw some people save up to £300 on energy.
If you have a smart meter you can apply for the 50% off weekend deal with ScottishPower. The deal is available to new and existing customers with a working smart meter that sends accurate half-hourly meter readings. You’ll need an online account with ScottishPower and must opt-in for the offer.
Your savings will appear as a ‘Power Saver credit’ on your bill. The discount will apply to the unit rate, but you will still pay full standing charges. Andrew Ward, Chief Executive of Scottish Power's Customer Business said: "Through half-price weekends, we hope to raise awareness of the benefits of using less electricity at peak times and encourage shifting usage to other days where they can.

"We know our customers are savvy when it comes to managing their energy use. We’re driving initiatives to help reduce bills, especially at this time of year when people are using more energy and the new price cap comes into force."
ScottishPower customers who use a smart meter will be eligible for half-price electricity during weekends this winter. This discount will run from 11am to 4pm every Saturday and Sunday from 1 December to 30 April 2025.
You’re not eligible for this scheme if you are signed up for any of the following:
Fixed energy tariff
Prepayment meter
ScottishPower’s Heat Pump Saver tariffs
EV Optimise tariff
Scottish Power - which is rivalled by Ovo, Octopus, EDF, E ON Next and British Gas - is rolling out the scheme following a successful trial with 5,000 of its customers. The trial saw the average household save at least £35 a year on energy.
