UK households to get free 'direct payment' worth £125 in July

Thousands of households will get free direct payment worth £125 in the next few weeks. As part of the Household Support Fund, Care Leavers will also be receiving a voucher payment of £125, after the Household Support Fund was extended earlier this year.

For most Care Leavers this voucher will be sent to them by the Post Office, with some others being provided directly by the Leaving Care Team. Vouchers will be posted to all eligible households automatically in July, Reading Borough Council has said.

Recipients will then have until August 31 2024, to cash the voucher at their local Post Office branch. The local authority in Reading, in Berkshire, said: "Households with pupil premium/free school meal children eligible for direct support will have received a £125 voucher sent to their homes by the Post Office.

"The Council’s HSF helpline is available between 10am to 12pm, and 2pm to 4pm, Monday to Friday. The following residents will be getting payments sent directly to them as part of the Household Support Fund." The payment to eligible households will be paid directly into their bank accounts. For the expected small number of residents who don’t have bank accounts, alternative payment arrangements will be made.
