UK households will be handed £30 supermarket vouchers over Christmas
Households in parts of the West Midlands are eligible for up to £45 worth of supermarket vouchers over the next four months. Food vouchers have been set aside for families with children at school who are entitled to income-related schemes in Telford & Wrekin district.
The vouchers have been made available thanks to funding from the UK government's Household Support Fund (HSF). The HSF, which is a pot of cash allocated to local authorities to support residents with the cost of living, has been extended for a further six months until March 31, 2025.
Telford & Wrekin Council has been given £1.5 million as part of the HSF scheme's extension. The local authority has made available food vouchers to families over the school holidays.

Over the Christmas break, £15 per child will be available. This will represent a total of £30 per child during the two weeks of the holiday.
And over the February 2025 half-term, another £15 will be available per child. A spokesperson for Telford & Wrekin Council said: "We are planning on using the funding to support the continued provision of food vouchers during school holidays for children who would usually be entitled to income-related Free School Meals, the Pupil Premium, Service Pupil Premium, Talking 2's or Early Years Pupil Premium."
Vouchers will be issued for the Christmas holiday and February half-term break. The council said the "planned amounts may reduce, dependant on the number of eligible children".
The spokesperson added: "Awards will be made in the form of supermarket vouchers. We will continue to contact residents directly who qualify with details of how to redeem their voucher."
