UK households must 'stock up' on crisp packets before October 1
UK households have been urged to stock up on crisp packets ahead of October. UK households have two weeks to stock up on empty crisp packets - because they can massively help slash your energy bills ahead of the new £1771 price cap.
Andrew Hayden, of Simply Plastics, has shed light on the importance of using reflective surfaces and said: "If you feel like there just isn't much warmth being thrown out from your radiators, you can up their efficiency by adding reflective material to the wall behind them, which helps to keep heat escaping out of it, and instead bounces it back into the room you are trying to warm up."
And if you're low on tin foil, you can use crisp packets instead. "While you can't change the price of the energy you're paying for, you can ensure that your home stays warmer without the need to hike up your energy bill,” Andrew explained.

"In fact, there are lots of ways you can make your home feel warmer and get the most out of your heating bill without having to spend a penny - you just have to get creative." And Home heating expert Mitchell Wray explains: "There are often household maintenance tasks that can be neglected or forgotten, and for lots of Brits bleeding your radiators might be one of them.
"Lots of advice often is focused on the central heating and boiler itself, but often money is wasted by not checking your actual radiators, and in some cases, can impact your overall central heating." It's estimated that up to 20% of your bill can be saved by having properly efficient radiators – which at this winter's cap is a figure close to £350.
Households can also cut down on central heating costs by eliminating trapped air accumulated over the summer months.
