UK households who have 'timber framed roofs' slapped with £26,500 warning
Homeowners have been warned over an "energy-efficient" update that could devalue a property by £26,500. UK households have been warned to check their insulation because c ertain insulation could lead to rot - and wipe a stack of cash from your value.
Spray foam insulation has been shown to cause problems for some, particularly for those with timber-framed roofs. Real estate experts at Auction House London said having rot as a result of this could drop the value of a property by 10 per cent.
As the average UK house price sat at £265,375 in August, according to Nationwide, which is the UK's largest building society and rivalled by banks like HSBC UK, Santander, Lloyds, NatWest, Barclays and more, means this could mean a drop in value by around £26,500.

An expert said: "If you're considering insulation options for your home and seeking energy-efficient solutions, I recommend using sheet insulation or foam boards made from materials like fibreglass, wool, plastic or natural fibres."
Speaking out, Auction House London Andrew Binstock went on and said: "These options are generally easier to install and remove when necessary. While spray foam is seen as more effective in reducing thermal bridging, improper application can trap moisture and lead to complications.
"Sheet materials, when installed correctly, can also help close gaps and minimise thermal bridging." Andrew continued: “If you already have spray foam insulation and it’s not causing any issues, you might choose to monitor its condition over time, especially if you’re not planning to move."
The warning from the housing expert continued, telling UK homeowners and households: "However, if you’re looking to sell or release equity, it may be wise to consult a professional for removal or explore various lenders, as their responses can vary depending on the type of spray foam and its installation."
