UK households have been urged to spend 99p to solve a major mould problem as we head towards Christmas. An expert has revealed an unlikely 99p hack to remove mould from your home, and you probably already have the product in your bathroom.

Emily Caloe, a senior buyer at Vonhaus, explains: "Damp, humid environments are just the right breeding grounds for mould. This is compounded by poor ventilation, leaks, condensation and high humidity levels that all create the perfect breeding ground for mould spores, which can affect walls, ceilings, windows and other surfaces with unsightly stains and possible health hazards".

Thankfully, this 99p miracle is just regular shaving foam, likely already in your bathroom. Caloe advises: "Start by giving your windows a good clean. Spread a thin layer of shaving cream over the glass; this shaving cream will act as a barrier, reducing condensation-a major cause of mould growth on windows.

"Let the foam sit for a few minutes until the excess is wiped off, and then let it sit with a thin, clear layer left behind." Caloe also suggests: "Alternatively, white distilled vinegar, use can the cheapest brand from the supermarket, will also help remove mould and kill its spores. Mix one part vinegar with one part water in a spray bottle and apply the solution to the affected area. Wipe down with a clean, damp cloth. If there is a smell of vinegar, don't worry-it will disappear within a few hours. And remember: always wear gloves and a mask when dealing with mould."

Black mould is a fungus that grows in warm, wet conditions such as in the bathroom. Mould can build up for a number of reasons, such as leaking pipes, poor insulation or if condensation is not wiped away after you've had a shower. It's important to get rid of mould as it can cause many health problems. According to the NHS, black mould can lead to asthma attacks, allergic reactions and infections.
