UK Posts 'Queue Tracker' as Thousands Wait to View Queen's Coffin

As thousands of people lined up in London on September 14 to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II lying in state, the UK’s government streamed live video displaying the length of the queue along with its start and end points.

The broadcast began at around 3 pm on the YouTube channel of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport. By that time, the line was already 1.59 miles long, according to the tracker. Members of the public were allowed to view the queen’s closed coffin in the Palace of Westminster from 5 pm onwards, the department said.

By 7 pm, the queue was 2.6 miles long, stretching from London Bridge to Lambeth and over the Thames into Westminster, the tracker indicated.

The queen’s lying-in-state period was due to close to the public on Monday, September 19, the department said. Credit: DCMS via Storyful
