UK weather maps have turned RED ahead of a reported weather bomb which could smash into the UK this week. A UK snow bomb will hammer the "entire" UK, according to maps and charts from WX Charts, which uses Met Desk data.

The Scottish Highlands are predicted to see snowfall at noon on January 27. The Met Office says UK weather will be "turning increasingly unsettled through this week with wet and windy weather on the way" this week.

After a benign spell of weather, low pressure systems will bring a more unsettled spell of weather with a severe weather warning for wind issued, the Met Office has said. The change in conditions is being driven by the weather over the other side of the Atlantic.

A large, very cold pool of air over parts of North America is generating a stark contrast in temperatures across the continent, acting to strengthen the jet stream resulting in deeper low pressure systems being able to develop, this jet oriented such that these lows will then be steered across the Atlantic towards the UK.

As the area of low pressure weakens and continues its north easterly track to the north of the UK, Saturday will remain a breezy day everywhere with strong winds persisting in the far North. It will be drier with showers replacing persistent heavy rain.

By Sunday another area of low pressure could bring further wet and very windy weather across the UK. Looking towards the rest of the week, the Met Office forecast explains: "Remaining cloudy with outbreaks of rain across central parts of the UK. To the either side, morning fog patches lifting allowing some sunny spells to develop, especially in the north.

"Rather cloudy with some rain and drizzle in places on Wednesday. Turning increasingly unsettled from Thursday onwards, with some wet and windy weather arriving on Friday."
