UK tourists 'must not' order pizza in Italy particularly in one major city
UK tourists have been warned not to order pizza in Italy. A TikTok content creator, with a legion of fans, has warned British holidaymakers and passengers who are sticking around in the European Union for summer and winter holidays.
In a warning to pizza fans heading to Italy, Erin shared a video detailing "things I wish social media told me before visiting Venice". "First up, do not rely on the food and definitely not the pizza," Erin advised. She pointed out that wood-burning ovens are banned in Venice.
And this affects the taste of the pizza, saying it "just lacks that extra flavour". On Reddit, fans have backed Erin's comments, with another saying: "I tried pizza in several countries. Then when I visited Italy, I had very big expectations. After all, it's the home country of pizza, isn't it? And everyone praises it for how delicious it is.

"However, I couldn't have been more disappointed. Not only that it was nothing special, even worse, it was bland and less delicious than in many other countries which are said to have 'copied' or 'imported' the recipe from Italy. (Btw, I tried it in three different cities. Same disappointing experience everywhere.)
"Pizza has become an international food nowadays, but if I had to make a ranking of the countries that make the best pizza, I wouldn't put Italy not even in top 5. Its barely at the bottom of the top 10 and I have a feeling that after I visit even more countries, it will fall out of top 10 too."
"Have you actually tried going to a non tourist trap, cause it’d be worthless to go to 3 different tourist traps in 3 different cities. You need to know where the right makers are, cause the difference is night and day," a second wrote.
Another said: "I was also shocked to find Italy pizza was average at most places . First thing I noticed is they like there pizza with few toppings and this seemed across the places I tried . Was not the reason I found it average . It reminded me allot of that cheap premade pizza you buy at the shops and just throw in oven. That being said wondering into some of the lesser known places I found amazing pizza . One was a hole in the wall in Luca Italy , another was also a tiny shop in Saint gimano . But there gelato made up for it" (sic).
