UK tourists in Spain 'who can't hold their liquor' could have passports taken

An ITV Coronation Street star has called for "ignorant" Brits to be banned from holiday hotspots. Charlie Lawson, who played Coronation Street legend Jim McDonald, spoke out to GB News over his desire to see misbehaving Brits banned.

“These are ignorant little cr*p hats who can’t hold their liquor”, the soap star fumed. “Off they kick and they are little scrotes. I would turn around and take their passports right off them. They should be barred from Magaluf and wherever else. These places need our beer money but I would have no problem removing their passports.”

Journalist Rebecca Reid said: “We can be a real embarrassment to our country, but we can’t start taking people’s passports away. If you do something illegal abroad, you should be treated like anybody else and be tried and pay for that crime, however, you can’t start bringing in new measures to punish people, especially restricting their travel.

“The Government being able to strip you of your freedoms is very scary and very worrying.” Officials in the Balearic Islands recently moved to tighten a ban on buying alcohol from shops in certain areas known to be a hit with rowdy tourists.

As well as forbidding drinking on public roads, the rules stop shops from selling alcohol late at night and put tighter controls on party boats. Any tourists found breaking these laws could face a fine of up to €3,000 (£2,580).

People could be fined between €750 and €1,500 (£645 and £1,290) if their public drinking "disrupts coexistence, involves crowds or deteriorates the tranquillity of the environment". If the offence is considered very serious, the fine could range from €1,500 to €3,000 (£1,290 to £2,580).

Local authorities will report the number of foreign tourists who have been sanctioned to the respective embassies, it has said.
