UK tourists warned 'stay away' from 38 places in Spain or risk £1,700 fine
UK tourists have been warned over visiting 38 parts of Spain this summer- or risk a £1,700 fine. Vapers have been warned over heading to the European Union holiday hotspot after 18 Balearic Island beaches have brought in smoke-free zones.
Last year, smoking was prohibited on all of Barcelona's beaches following a successful trial in 2021, too and beach-goers who break the rules face fines of up to €2,000 (or £1,700). Evelyn Varkonyi, a tourist from Austria, says the ban is necessary “because most people throw cigarettes in the sand.”
“I don't do it. But I can understand. And it's not good for nature," she said. Mike Byers, vape expert of WickdUp, said: “While it may be tempting to sneakily use your vape whilst relaxing on the beach, it is important to abide by local regulations and laws. Some countries lack the vape shop culture we have in the UK, so stocking up on disposable vapes and liquids can also be important - if that country allows travellers to include it in their luggage.

"Many EU countries still allow vaping in public spaces, but make sure you check local jurisdiction before paying any holiday deposits. If in doubt, use Gov.uk to seek advice whenever unsure and stay up to date with laws and regulations in every country."
A ban on smoking was brought in earlier this on 28 beaches including Playa de Talamanca in Ibiza, Platja Gran in Menorca, and Sant Joan in Majorca. On the mainland, the tourist hotspot of Barcelona introduced a ban on smoking on all of its 10 beaches last summer.
"I think it's fair, to keep the beach clean. Also because of the environment. But being able to control every single person will be extremely difficult” said Antonella Bellotti, an Italian tourist. She suggested keeping a designated smoking area “with trays for ashes and cigarette butts. To keep everything clean."
