Parts of the UK are expected to be hit by snow this week as temperatures continue to drop. Brits have been told of 'treacherous' conditions with some warnings in place for snow and ice.

Temperatures dropped to minus 7.8C in Tulloch Bridge, Scotland, in the early hours of Monday, November 18, which is the lowest temperature the UK has seen since last winter. BBC weather forecaster Elizabeth Rizzini has warned of a “blast of winter” this week with up to 10cm of snow over the Pennines.

She said: "A risk of further snow and ice tonight, and an overnight frost as we head through the rest of the week. We are likely to see some snow for a time across Northern Ireland, particularly over higher ground, into North Wales and northern England too.

"Over the Pennines there could be as much as 5cm to 10cm, more snow than that perhaps over some of the higher trans-Pennine routes and even into the north of the Midlands, parts of Lincolnshire as well a dusting of snow, a few centimetres always possible. But a lot of uncertainty on the northern and southern extent of that wintry weather.

"It will be followed on by some icy stretches so take care if out and about tomorrow morning, some treacherous driving conditions out there. As the low clears away then we could see a little bit of a wintry mix perhaps across East Anglia at times and into the far south and east of England especially over the higher ground."

Met Office spokesperson, Nicola Maxey, told The Mirror: "It is going to be quite a widely cold week. A few degrees below average both day and night for most of the country. There’s likely to be a widespread frost overnight as we get this colder air coming in from the Arctic maritime air mass – cold air from the north pushing down across the country – which will be across the whole country by the middle of the week."

The Met Office has issued several yellow weather warnings for snow and ice for parts of the UK. A warning for Northern Island comes into force at 3pm today (November 18) and is in place until 10am on Tuesday, November 19. A

Scotland has also been issued with a warning which is in place from 4pm and continues into Wednesday, November 20. As for England, a warning foes live at 7pm and lasts until 10am on Tuesday covering areas in the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the north.
