The UK is set to be battered by heavy rain today as we still look forward to just a little bit more sunnier skies.

According to the Met Office's latest forecast, many parts of the UK will see clear skies this morning, especially northern and eastern parts of the country. However, many other parts will be hit by 'outbreaks' of rain which could potentially evolve into "heavy and thundery showers" in the evening.

As we progress into the day, heavy showers will persist in many parts which are expected to ease slightly by nighttime. However, there is still a risk of showers at this time in northern and western parts of the country.

In its forecast for the north west today, the Met Office stated: "Early brightness in the north but skies soon clouding over with outbreaks of rain developing during the morning. Possibly brightening up in the south later with showers developing. Becoming quite humid. Maximum temperature 16 °C."

For the evening, it adds: "Remaining cloudy across the region, perhaps with some brighter spells here and there during the evening. Further showers likely, these heavy at first, but easing later in the night. Minimum temperature 9 °C."

The bleak end to the Bank Holiday weekend is unfortunately not going to get much brighter in the coming days, however, the rain is expected to let up slightly. On Wednesday, a mix of sunshine and showers are expected, however, there will be a risk of hail and thunder in some parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the weekend is expected to follow a similar mix of sun and rain with a continued risk of hail and thundery conditions throughout.
