'Wet and windy' weather to sweep UK this week after cold spell, Met Office says
Britons can expect milder temperatures this week, although the Met Office warns low pressure will bring a "disruptive" period of wind and rain.
The UK is set for a milder spell this week after a chilly Monday night which saw temperatures drop as low as -5C in parts of Britain.
Britons in northern parts of the country woke up to frosty conditions this morning, with the coldest overnight temperatures recorded in Loch Glascarnoch, in the Scottish Highlands.
However, having scraped off their car windshields today, they can expect milder temperatures from Tuesday, although the Met Office warns low pressure later in the week will bring a "disruptive" period of wind and rain.
Met Office meteorologist Honor Criswick said: "With plenty of clear skies in northern areas overnight, that led to sharp widespread frost for many of us. A particularly cold start here with some frost and icy stretches.
"For many of us thought, it is going to be a largely dry and bright day - plenty of sunny spells."
Tuesday begins with a chill in the air and isolated icy stretches are possible on untreated surfaces

As clouds move in from the northeast on Tuesday afternoon, Criswick said people can expect outbreaks of rain, "heavy at times", which "may even start to fall as snow across the high ground of western Scotland".
"For many of us though, plenty of dry weather, though it is going to be feeling rather chilly - highs of 8-10C in the south, but for eastern parts of Scotland, hights not really budging past 4-5C."
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, Criswick says we can expect "plenty of clear skies" on Wednesday, meaning potentially more frosty conditions.
From Thursday onwards, the forecaster says the UK is going to see some "wet and windy weather", which could "cause some disruption" as we head into Friday and Saturday, adding that mild conditions this week are leading the country to a colder weekend.
