Ukraine FA Displays Bombed Soccer Seats Before Euro 2024 Clash in Munich

Ahead of Ukraine’s opening match in the UEFA European Championships (Euro 2024) in Munich on Monday, June 17, the Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) displayed a stadium stand from east Ukraine that had been bombed by Russian forces in 2022.

UAF President Andriy Shevchenko unveiled the damaged seating, which was transported to Munich from the Sonyachny Stadium in Kharkiv, to raise awareness of the war’s impact on sports.

The stadium, which was originally built as a training center for Euro 2012, was heavily damaged by Russian artillery in May, 2022, according to local reports.

The UAF said “more than 500 sports infrastructure facilities in Ukraine have suffered from Russian bombings and missile strikes.” Credit: Ukrainian Football Association via Storyful
