A K9 Global Rescue volunteer said: "As I showed her the animals up front she was saying that there were many lost animals in the village just wandering around who had lost their homes.

"When I opened up the back doors, she gasped, took a step back, and said 'JACK??'

"She went back into the house to go get the older lady and bring her outside to see the dogs.

"When the old lady saw him, she started welling up."

The group added: "Although we had never met and spoke two completely different languages, it was clear that we fully understood each other.

“Knowing that we were able to bring a lost soul home to their family is so gratifying.”

K9 Global Rescue is a group of veterans spearheading a mission to save dogs from inhumane treatment worldwide.

It comes as a blast rocked the Kerch bridge which links Russia and the Crimea peninsula on Saturday, causing parts of the road to collapse.

The bridge is a crucial military supply route for Russian forces in Ukraine.

Fire and thick smoke were seen on the strategic road-and-rail bridge, the only crossing between Crimea and Russia.

Video showed CCTV footage of the blast.

It was not yet clear if the blast was a deliberate attack but the damage to such high-profile infrastructure came at a time when Russia has suffered several battlefield defeats.

The Russian Investigative Committee said the blast occurred in a freight truck, causing fuel tanker wagons to catch fire on a train heading for the peninsula.

It added that two sections of the bridge had partially collapsed.

Sergei Aksyonov, the Russian governor of Crimea, said on social media that the road bridge was still intact in one direction.

Although he added traffic was suspended while the damage was being assessed.

A Ukrainian presidential adviser posted a message on Twitter saying the incident was just "the beginning” but he stopped short of saying Ukrainian forces were responsible.

Russia seized Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
