The Security Service of Ukraine raided a historic Eastern Orthodox Christian monastery in Kyiv as part of what they said was a “counterintelligence” operation on November 22. A raid was also carried out in the city of Rivne, officials there said.
The Security Service of Ukraine said the measures were being carried out jointly with the National Police and the National Guard as part of the service’s “systematic work to combat the subversive activities of Russian intelligence agencies in Ukraine”.
Officers were working with the direct participation of church representatives to conduct a review of the specified “territory and premises” to search for prohibited items and carry out “inspections” of people in the area, they said.
