Ukraine Teens Learn How to Shoot in Self-Defense Classes in Lviv

Summer classes are being held in Lviv, Ukraine, to teach high-school students basic self-defense, weapons handling, and shooting, according to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL).

Footage published by the outlet on Monday, August 1, shows students listening to lectures, learning self-defense skills, and practicing shooting targets with different weapons.

“Children are children, and we are not training them for war,” Vasyl Neymet, head of the Youth Rifle Club, said in the video. “But now the situation is such that children understand what’s going on. Their parents, neighbors, and friends have gone [to war],” he added.

Yevhen Boyko, head of the Department of Humanitarian Policy in Lviv, said schools will “pay more attention to national and patriotic education, training, proper handling of weapons and medicine lessons” at the beginning of the academic year. Credit: Current Time/RFE/RL via Storyful
