Ukraine's Chief Rabbi Ducks for Cover During Shelling in Kherson

Ukraine’s chief rabbi and his team came under fire on Thursday, June 8, as Russian shelling was reported in the city of Kherson during evacuations from flooded areas along the Dnipro River.

In footage he posted to his Twitter account on Thursday, Rabbi Moshe Reuven Azman is interrupted while giving an update, and seen ducking for cover as shells land nearby.

He had been speaking on camera about bringing a special vehicle to help evacuate civilians from the flooded right-bank areas of Kherson after the Nova Kakhovka dam collapse.

Writing about the near-miss on Twitter, the rabbi said: “miraculously survived. Details later.” Credit: Moshe Reuven Azman via Storyful
