Ukraine's Eurovision Commentator Overjoyed at Song Contest Win

Ukraine’s Eurovision commentator, Timur Miroshnychenko, was overjoyed and emotional as he cheered his country’s victory in the Eurovision Song Contest from inside a bomb shelter early on May 15.

Footage from a livestream by the national broadcaster Suspilne shows Miroshnychenko’s reaction as Ukraine’s victory is assured on the back of huge public support, which saw its entry overhaul the UK’s Sam Ryder.

Ukraine’s winning act, Kalush Orchestra, garnered 631 points in total, with the UK second on 466.

On Instagram, Miroshnychenko thanked the band for their “perseverance and determination, the right stubbornness and courage. Today you embodied every Ukrainian. It’s priceless!”

He added that he was writing while still in the bunker at 5 am because of “explosions somewhere nearby”. Credit: Suspilne via Storyful
