(Reuters) -British sportswear retailer JD Sports Fashion has appointed Dominic Platt as its chief financial officer, replacing Neil Greenhalgh who is stepping down in the summer after four years in the role, the company said on Thursday.

Platt, 53, who is currently CFO of BGL Group - a digital distributor of financial services - takes over the role as the sportswear retailer pursues ambitious expansion plans under Chief Executive Officer Régis Schultz to become an athletic leisurewear "powerhouse".

Earlier this week, JD Sports proposed to buy France's Groupe Courir for an enterprise value of 520 million euros ($572.42 million).

"Having worked closely with Dominic before, I am certain his financial expertise, deep knowledge of governance and strategic counsel will be crucial in helping to drive forward the next chapter in the global growth story of JD," Schultz said in a statement.

Greenhalgh's resignation was announced last October, a month after Schultz was named CEO of the sportswear retailer.

JD Sports shares rose 0.3% to 165 pence in early trade on Thursday.

Platt's appointment comes days after Sky News said that he had handed in his notice at BGL.
