UK's largest education union approves 5.5% teacher pay rise
Members of the UK's largest education union have voted in favour of the Government's proposed 5.5% pay increase for teachers in England.
In a snap poll conducted by the National Education Union (NEU), 95% of responding members agreed to accept the pay offer for the 2024/25 academic year.
The NEU has stated that schools will receive an additional £1.2 billion in funding for the 2024/25 financial year to help offset the costs of the increased teacher pay award.
Daniel Kebede, General Secretary of the NEU, commented: "Our members should be proud of what they have achieved through a hard-fought campaign."
"They have accepted this year's pay deal, but the Government should be in no doubt that we see it as just a first step in the major pay correction needed."
