A large hole capable of generating solar winds north of a million miles per hour has appeared on the surface of the sun for the second time in a week. It is known as a coronal hole - and this one is 20 times bigger than Earth. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory spotted it, and it could send superfast solar winds of 1.8 million miles per hour hurtling towards our planet as early as Thursday.
Households are to be penalised if they do not switch away from gas under net zero plans to be unveiled on Thursday.
Standing charges are set to go up from April and campaigners have urged people to take meter readings so they know where they stand
An ultramassive black hole around 33 billion times the mass of the sun has been discovered by UK astronomers. Scientists from Durham University said the gargantuan black hole is one of the biggest ever found. The team described its findings, published in the journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, as "extremely exciting".

Hawaii authorities on Tuesday say they have referred 33 people to U.S. law enforcement after the group allegedly harassed a pod of wild dolphins in waters off the Big Island. It's against federal law to swim within 50 yards (45 meters) of spinner dolphins in Hawaii’s nearshore waters. The prohibition went into effect in 2021 amid concerns that so many tourists were swimming with dolphins that the nocturnal animals weren’t getting the rest they need during the day to be able to forage for food at night.
It is one of the biggest black holes ever found, scientists say.

If publishing new and revised UK government documents on subjects relating to climate change had a cooling effect on the planet, scientists could forget about global warming and instead worry about an imminent ice age. Carbon Brief’s Simon Evans has put together a handy Google Doc listing all the documents (44) and the total number of pages (2,840) released today (so far). Ministers have very much pitched today, dubbed ‘Green day’, on the security of supply.
