UN Staff Mark Sixth Anniversary of Syrian War With Moment's Silence

Staff at the UN in New York on March 15 marked the sixth anniversary of the outbreak of war in Syria, gathering for a moment’s silence during which people held up pictures of some of the child victims.

The UN’s Emergency Relief Coordinator, Stephen O’Brien, on March 15 called the civilian toll of the war “inexcusable,” according to a press briefing. Stéphane Dujarric, deputy spokesman for the secretary general, outlined the deteriorating humanitarian conditions faced by the 11 million people displaced by the fighting.
