UN Warns of Urgent Need for 'Life-Saving Supplies' in the Bahamas

UN humanitarian officials have warned of an urgent need for critical life-saving supplies in the Bahamas.

On September 9 they reported the arrival of 1.5 tons of supplies to support their efforts to provide potable water to people affected by Hurricane Dorian.

At least 50 people died when Dorian swept across the islands, according to local reports citing Commissioner of Police Anthony Ferguson.

The storm, then a Category 5 hurricane, made landfall on September 1. The island of Abaco was largely devastated and about 70,000 people have been left homeless across the archipelago. Credit: UNICEF via Storyful
