Unai Emery has committed his future to Aston Villa by signing a new five-year contract, the club have confirmed. Emery, who took over the reins after the sacking of Steven Gerrard shortly before the Qatar World Cup in 2022, has led Villa to successive campaigns in Europe after their fourth placed finish last season.

Emery, who left Villarreal to take up the vacancy at Villa Park, only extended his contract to 2027 a month ago. Now, though, he has agreed a new and improved deal which runs until 2029. Villa have successfully tied down their stars - including Ezri Konsa, Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins in recent months - to new and lengthy contracts, but Emery's might be the most significant of all.

At a time when Chelsea are looking for a new manager, and uncertainty remains around Erik ten Hag's future at Manchester United, Villa have moved to take Emery out of any equations - though the Spaniard himself was clearly fully immersed in achieving Villa's long-term goals under NSWE as it was, and he has been permitted to sanction the recruitment of key staff including Monchi and Damian Vidagany.

“I am very happy to take this step and the responsibility of leading this club," he said. “Since I came to Villa with Wes and Nassef we found always the best environment and structure to develop a project with the highest ambition.

“All the football structure with Monchi and Damian and the owners, we share the same vision and same goals. There’s a great chemistry in Aston Villa. And the element of the fans’ support also makes the difference to feel like home. We are really excited to continue this journey with no limits to our dreams.”
