"Unbelievable" point, scan for Arkell Jude-Boyd after first EFL goal and signs of progress - Cheltenham Town boss Michael Flynn after Chesterfield draw

Do you view that as a very satisfactory afternoon?

It's an unbelievable point, coming here with all the resources they have. I am very proud of my players today. We've had to tweak one or two things. We had Arkell (Jude-Boyd) going off, which is not looking good. I thought we were solid and the only chances they had really were from our mistakes. The sooner we cut them out, the more potent we can be going forward. We could have nicked it at the end.

What did you say to the players at half-time?

We have to cut out our errors, taking too many touches. Their goal, I called it on the bench as soon as we tried to pass it inside, then Stubbsy (Sam Stubbs) overhits it and I said 'they are going to score here', Matty Taylor goes and slips and it's a goal. It happens and I've seen it too many times, when one mistake leads to two, leads to three, leads to four. We have to cut them out because I've told them, just turn in the corner, we are away from home and I wanted to stop the rot away from home and get some points or a point on the board. I am telling you, it's a tough place to come.

Second half you really took the game to them

We did and we worked in the week on them having possession. They average over 60 per cent possession. Let them have it. They have won games with 60 per cent and lost games with 60 per cent. Today they have drawn. For us, it's an away point and really it's what we should have had at Salford at least.

Chances to win it in the second half as well

Yes, we did. It was just that little bit of luck, or composure. We'll get there. We are a young team, in that we have only just got together, 19 new players, they have given everything and I do feel we are only going to improve.

Do you become more clear about what your best XI is?

It's difficult because every time I get close to it, somebody gets injured. It is what it is. Even Lewis (Shipley) had to come off at the end. He couldn't move. That's what it takes to be a professional footballer, stepping out of what I would call the safe environment now. He has to come in and be a real professional and that 80 odd minutes he's got today will do him the world of good and he knows what to expect now.

What is the situation with Arkell Jude-Boyd?

I don't have a scanning machine, but he is quick, he's pulled his hamstring, we are going to have to wait for the scan and go from there.

He took the goal well didn't he?

He took it very well. I wish he'd do it more because he has unbelievable pace, he's a smashing lad and I think he has a bright future. He needs to be a bit more consistent on his numbers and his output, which he will do with games.

Owen Evans didn't have many saves to make at the other end did he?

No and we worked hard on defending around about the box, which I am really frustrated with the first goal because we did it for over half an hour non stop on Tuesday, pressure, pressure, pressure and I don't think there was a shot on target. They showed they can do it because you are never going to get half an hour of non-stop siege on your goal and they dealt with it. They showed the right attributes and commitment to keep that ball out on Tuesday, so I was a bit frustrated with that. But after that, I thought they were exceptional in those areas.

Is this the most satisfied you have been after a game this season?

No, because we've won a few! Coming here, I knew it'd be tough and we have a really tough few weeks now, with Barrow, Carlisle and Colchester away. I don't have to mention the home games when you have them away. It's ridiculous, the amount of travelling we will be doing. We need to be lucky now with injuries.

Arkell Jude-Boyd will always remember his first EFL goal, but bittersweet due to the injury

Yes, it almost makes you think you'd rather him not score. It's that kind of situation. He's had a good month, scoring his first international goal, now his first League goal. I am hoping it's not too bad, but until we get the scan next week, we won't know.

Do you know how he did it, was it running through, or as he shot into the net?

I don't know, the main thing was I wanted to make sure he was okay. I will speak to him now on the coach.

How are Lewis Payne, Jordan Thomas and Freddy Willcox?

Payney was precautionary today because we couldn't risk him in an away game, on a big pitch, their pace. It was a red flag for a hamstring. I don't want that, so we made an educated decision and I thought Ibra (Bakare) settled into the game really well. Jordan should be back in a week or two and Freddy is ready to go next week.

Was Lewis Shipley's injury just fatigue?

Yes, just fatigue and that's the intensity, even in League Two. Imagine how much more they have go at their respective clubs. I mean that in the right way because the Championship is unbelievable, the pace and physical outputs from the players is only getting higher and higher, so these players need to be ready.

You know Paul Cook well. Do you expect Chesterfield to be up there this season?

I think they will be there or thereabouts. Look at the bench, Fleck needs to get up to pace, Paddy Madden is back now, Grigg isn't too far away. They are littered with experienced, good players. If I am honest, it was probably the right time to come here.

How's the back and will you be soaking it in a hot bath this evening to try and loosen it up?

It's stiff. It didn't help when Cooky was grabbing hold of me, but I was using my bit experience there to waste a few seconds!
