Underground Gas Fire Forces Evacuations in Seattle

Firefighters battled an underground fire caused by a gas leak in Seattle, Washington, on February 24, which forced evacuations around the area.

Footage shared by the Seattle Fire Department shows flames shooting up from below street level. “This is confirmed to be a natural gas leak, the gas has ignited and melted through asphalt,” wrote the Fire Department on the post. “One block in each direction from MLK Jr. Way and E. Cherry St evacuated.”
