Police are investigating the ‘unexplained’ deaths of an elderly woman and her daughter whose bodies were found at a property in west Wales earlier this week.

Lilian Smith, 84, and her 63-year-old daughter Susan Smith were discovered at an address in Sandy Hill Road, Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire, on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of two people who were found at a property in Saundersfoot just before 4pm on Tuesday (January 7).

“The deaths are currently being treated as unexplained but not suspicious.”

One neighbour, who lives opposite where their bodies were found, said: “It's a big shock to have two sudden deaths like that in the street. I knew Lilian and Sue because they've lived here for years but they kept themselves to themselves a lot of the time. It was just the two of them living there.

“Sometimes you would see Sue out in the garden in the summer looking after the flowers but other than that you wouldn't see them much. It's very sad.”

Pembrokeshire councillor and Saundersfoot Community Council member Phil Baker said: "It was a big shock. My wife phoned me earlier today to tell me the news.

“I didn't know the women personally but my thoughts are with their family and friends at this sad time, and their neighbours too. It's very sad for the whole community.”
