UNHCR Builds Shelters for Thousands of Yemenis Displaced by War

The UNHCR said on August 17 that it was building 4,700 eco-friendly transitional shelters in Hajjah, Yemen, for more than 30,000 internally displaced people.

The UNHCR said that Hajjah hosts almost 20 percent of Yemen’s two million displaced people, many of whom have fled conflict.

The shelters were being built with local materials, consisting of a wooden structure reinforced by mud and dung walls, and covered with local plants and grass. Credit: UNHCR via Storyful
