United: Giggs The Only Over-Age Player For The Olympics

Ferguson And Giggs Win Premier League Awards

Manchester United have told the Football Association that Ryan Giggs is the only over-age player they will allow to play for the British Olympic team.

Giggs, who's 38 years old, has never played in a major international tournament.

United have told the FA that Olympic team coach Stuart Pearce cannot select Rio Ferdinand, Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes or Jonny Evans.

However United have given permission for their under-age players Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling to take part, if they are not picked for the England Euro 2012 squad.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has also confirmed that striker Javier Hernandez will not be part of the Mexico Olympic team at the Games.

A ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport in 2008 has given clubs the right to refuse to release players for competitions which aren't on the international calendar.
