As far as part-time jobs go, it’s a bit of a rare one.

It’s even more rare if you’re a university student.

Instead of working in a bar or a restaurant, Amy Clark makes extra cash at the weekend as a lorry driver.

The 19-year-old from Broughton, North Lincolnshire, passed her HGV test when she was 18 and is one of the youngest women in the country to do so.

She now holds three licenses and drives across the country outside term time for her father’s haulage firm.

She is studying business management at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

When she doesn’t have her head in the books, she is looking out from the cab of a 44-tonne truck.

“I was over the moon when I turned 18 and could finally get my lorry driving licence,” said Miss Clark.

“My family were all so proud and I couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel.

“I’m quite a girly girl who loves going shopping and nights out so a lot of people are very surprised when I step out of a lorry.

“I look so small driving such a huge vehicle but they’re great to drive and I’m a safe driver.

“None of my friends at university believed me when I told them about my part-time job at home.

“I know it’s very different profession for a young female student but my dad loves driving lorries and I like the fact that a lot of my friends have normal jobs in retail stores or offices whereas mine is very unique.”

“I can’t wait to come home during holidays and help my dad out delivering timber on his lorries.”

Miss Clark plans on driving full-time for the family firm during Christmas, Easter and summer holidays.
